Music for Historic Coventry

A concert of Medieval and Renaissance music celebrating 200 years of Coventry’s history, featuring The Binchois Consort, His Majestys Sagbutts and Cornetts and The Choir of Holy Trinity Church, Coventry. The programme will include music by the great English composer Orlando Gibbons, who died in 1625, 400 years ago. This concert is the culmination of a three year research project ‘Aural Histories: Coventry 1451 – 1642’ funded by AHRC and based at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, investigating the experience of music in Coventry’s sacred and civic spaces, from the late Middle Ages to the start of the English Civil War. The performance will be accompanied by visual imagery depicting Holy Trinity Church, St Michael’s Parish Church (the old cathedral), and St Mary’s Guildhall as they may have appeared at key points in time between 1451 and 1642. The concert is free to attend and will be followed by refreshments.
