Join music and installation artists for this truly hands-on home-educator workshop series to develop your practical skills and discover the connections between everyday life, the Arts and STEM.

· Build with electronics and make music

· Deconstruct and discover the basic principles of reverse engineering

Each session of our series will be delivered in the morning and in the afternoon, meaning that you can flexibly create your workshop plans according to other commitments.

The themes of this workshop series all around the use of electronics in our everyday lives are:

Wednesday 11 June, 18 June, 25 June | 10.30am-12.30pm OR 2pm – 4pm | Exploring electronics through and with music

Our friends from City Full of Noises are bringing their knowledge of music, making music, electronics and amazing resources for participants to experiment with and make simple, yet effective, music machines.

Wednesday 2 July | 10.30am-12.30pm OR 2pm – 4pm | An introduction to carefully destroying stuff OR the basics of reverse engineering

Our very own Learning Team officially encourages you to take apart everyday items and discover the difference between destruction and deconstruction.

Wednesday 9 July & Wednesday 16 July | 10.30am-12.30pm OR 2pm – 4pm | Using STEM knowledge and electronics to make art inclusive

Julia Snowdin, installation artist with a special interest in inclusive and accessible art, shares how she has developed and created her interactive artwork ROARING MONSTERS. Be prepared to make your own monster and equip it with necessary electronic parts to make it roar.

FAQ’s:

Can my child attend the workshop on their own?

Yes. While we are happy for you to attend the workshop with your child, all of our facilitators and workshop leads are DBS checked and your child will be in a safe space throughout the workshop. If you and your child choose to attend the workshop on their own, we kindly ask you to remain in the building for the duration of the workshop.

Can I bring a younger sibling, age 0-5?

Each Wednesday we are running our free Mini Museum Engineers play sessions which would be a perfect space for your youngest to engage with STEM concepts in a playful and explorative way – while your 7-11 year-old attends their own workshop.

What if I think my child of 5-6 or 11+ year old would be interested in the workshop?

We believe that you know your children best and will evaluate whether this workshop is the right fit for them. Our facilitators are specialists in making any content meaningful to each ability but do get in touch if you have questions about the content and resources that are used during the workshops.
