Heritage Open Days: Wyley Chapel open to the public

The Wyley Chapel was used during WW2 as an air raid shelter, where people hid during the fateful night of the Blitz. Not usually open to the public except for occasional events, during Heritage Open Days visitors will have the opportunity to visit the Chapel, which was famously where Provost Dick Howard gave the Christmas Day service which was broadcast around the world live on BBC radio on 25 December 1940, just weeks after the cathedral had been bombed by German bombs. Provost Howard called for forgiveness, as well as for peace and reconciliation, words which would be immortalised and forever linked to our city.
